Strategy Analyst

Job Specifications:

Position Status: Exempt

This position is full-time and requires a minimum of two days per week onsite for those residing in the Bay Area.

Position Purpose:

The strategy analyst supports the objectives of the Strategy Team by co-creating high-impact and compelling strategies aimed at advancing MCF's mission and vision. The Strategy Analyst will collaborate closely with the Chief Strategy Officer, social sector leaders, and philanthropists to tackle the biggest challenges facing the region. The strategy analyst will conduct research, analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data, engage in expert interviews, develop concrete solutions, and effectively communicate findings within the team and to potential donors. This role offers the opportunity to directly influence philanthropic strategies and the communities they serve while honing critical thinking and professional skills.

Reports to:

The Strategy Analyst reports to the Chief Strategy Officer.

Essential Functions:

  • Research various philanthropic strategies and opportunities; evaluate their potential benefits, costs, and risks through an inclusive lens.
  • Analyze both quantitative and qualitative data; model quantitative data and scenarios where applicable, ensuring rigorous quality control.
  • Synthesize findings into actionable recommendations that are communicated clearly to the MCF team, interested parties, and potential donors.
  • Provide support to initiative teams in the development and implementation of strategies. Current strategic initiatives include climate justice, housing and homelessness, community power, and various themed pooled funds.
  • Develop concise written documents and presentations with an emphasis on accessibility and clarity.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as delegated.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Demonstrated track record of impact, with an understanding of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in driving meaningful change.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative problem-solving techniques.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the ability to take initiative.
  • Genuine interest in social issues including climate, housing and homelessness, equity, and justice, with a commitment to ongoing learning and development.
  • Experience in strategy consulting or similar client services-based roles is advantageous.
  • Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all aspects of work.
  • Proficient writing, editing, and proofreading skills coupled with the ability to gather and organize information effectively.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and prioritization skills, efficiently managing daily tasks, multiple requests, and projects, while handling long-term assignments.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills encompassing listening, interpersonal, oral, presentation, and written abilities for multiple and diverse audiences.
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism, judgement, and flexibility, enabling effective collaboration with clients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive in a team environment. Capable of cultivating and sustaining positive working relationships with Foundation staff, community members, elected officials, the media, colleagues in other foundations, and members of the nonprofit sector.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to personal and professional integrity and uphold high ethical standards.

The salary for this position is $85,000 - $90,000.
